What we do

Garage Floor Coating in Albuquerque

Garage floor coating contractors grind and repair a concrete garage slab, then bond a protective epoxy or polyurea coating to it. We do all of it, start to finish, on garage floors across Albuquerque.

The grinding decides how long the floor lasts. "Diamond grinding" takes the dirt, oil and stains off the whole surface and roughens it, opening the pores so the coating locks into the concrete instead of sitting on top of it. A coating that only sits on top is the one that peels.

Every floor we coat gets the same four things.

  • Oil and stains ground off. The whole surface is diamond ground before anything goes on it.
  • Damage fixed first. Cracks, voids and flaking spots, the trade's "spalling", are repaired under the coating, not hidden by it.
  • Joints that can move. Flexible sealer in the control joints lets the slab expand and contract.
  • A coating that bonds. Epoxy or polyurea on open, ground concrete locks in instead of sitting on top.

Coating systems

Epoxy and Polyurea Floor Coatings for Homes and Shops

We install epoxy and polyurea coating systems on residential garages and commercial shop floors, and polyurea adds strength and flexibility. Both go down on a slab we have ground and repaired.

The rigid coat

Epoxy

Our epoxy floor systems use a 100% solids cycloaliphatic epoxy, with no solvents and no fillers in it. It goes onto ground, repaired concrete and cures into a hard coat.

  • 100% solids
  • No solvents or fillers
  • Garages and shop floors
Strength and flexibility The flexible coat

Polyurea

Polyurea floor coatings are valued for their strength and flexibility, which suits a garage slab that expands and contracts. It bonds to the same ground, repaired concrete.

  • Added strength
  • Added flexibility

How it's done

Diamond Grinding, Crack Repair and Coating

We diamond grind the whole slab, repair cracks, voids and spalled areas, fill the control joints with a flexible sealer, then apply the coating. It starts with a call and a free look at the floor.

A coating job runs in these four steps, and three of them are prep.

  1. Diamond grinding

Industrial diamond grinders with 20-grit bits take the top off the whole slab, and their built-in dust extraction pulls the dust away as they go.

  2. Crack repair

Every break in the surface, from a hairline to a pitted patch, is filled flush so the coating lies on sound concrete.

  3. Joint sealer

The "control joints", the cut lines across the slab, are filled with a flexible sealer that lets the concrete expand and contract and keeps insects out of the voids.

  4. Coating

The epoxy or polyurea goes onto clean, open, repaired concrete, so it locks in instead of sitting on top.

28daysFor fresh concrete to cure

Coating New Concrete Floors

No, fresh concrete needs about 28 days to cure before a coating bonds to it.

Coat it sooner and the coating traps the moisture still in the concrete, and that moisture makes it bubble and lift. If your garage slab is new, we plan the coating for after the cure.

What it costs

Garage Floor Coating Prices

The garage's square footage, the coating system and the repairs the slab needs first set the price. Garage floor coating in Albuquerque typically runs $4 to $7 per square foot, which is why the size of the floor comes first.

Three things move the number for your floor.

  • Square footage. A bigger floor takes more grinding and more coating.
  • The coating system. The epoxy or polyurea you pick is part of the price.
  • Repairs first. Cracks, voids and spalled areas are fixed before the coat, and a slab that needs more prep costs more.

We measure the floor and quote the whole job before we start, and the estimate is free.

Typical in Albuquerque

Know before you coat

Slippery, Yellowing or Peeling Floor Coatings

Standard epoxy can be slippery when wet and can yellow in sunlight, and any coating on a poorly prepared slab can peel.

Slippery when wet. Standard epoxy coatings are not slip-resistant, so water tracked in on the tires makes the floor slick.

Yellowing in the sun. Standard epoxy is not UV-stable, and in sunlight it yellows, chalks and turns brittle.

Peeling and lifting. A coating rolled over dirt, oil or an unground slab sits on top instead of locking in, and it can peel. Hot tires can pull up a weak coating too, which the trade calls "hot tire pickup".

Each of these comes back to the product and the prep, which is why we grind and repair every floor before it is coated.

What is the average cost to coat a garage floor?

Garage floor coating in Albuquerque typically runs $4 to $7 per square foot, and a one-car garage typically runs $1,100 to $1,800. Your floor's size, the coating and the repairs it needs set where it lands, and we quote it free once we have seen it.

What is the highest rated garage floor coating?

No one coating is best for every garage. Polyurea is valued for its strength and flexibility, and a 100% solids epoxy with no solvents or fillers cures into a hard coat. Either one holds only as well as the prep under it, so we diamond grind every floor first.

How much does it cost to epoxy a 500 square foot garage floor?

That is about the size of a two-car garage, which typically runs $2,200 to $3,600 in Albuquerque. The repairs the slab needs and the coating you pick move it within that range.

How much does it cost to epoxy 1000 square feet of flooring?

On a floor that big, the square footage sets most of the price. The coating system and the repairs the slab needs set the rest, so we measure it and quote the whole job before we start.
